D’Addario EJ40 Silk and Steel String Change:
After a few weeks of using my Epiphone AJ-220S acoustic guitar, I decided to try again some experiment on my acoustic guitar by replacing the strings set with different type. I searched the net and checked which strings that will produce mellow tone. After reading thru various reviews and users’ experiences I ended up choosing D’Addario EJ40 Silk and Steel strings. I went to the local guitar shop and purchased D’Addario EJ40 Silk and Steel strings set. As soon as I got home, I immediately replaced the set of strings installed which was D’Addario EZ900 85/15 American Bronze.
There were many good reviews on D’Addario EJ40 Silk and Steel strings from users and noticed that they mentioned that this model of string is great for fingerstyle guitar players. As I mentioned earlier, this type of strings will give mellow sound on my guitar. Another advantage of this string is that the tension is low due to thin gauge and they are smooth thus easy on my fingers. Here is the link for the reviews of other users of D’Addario EJ40 strings. This EJ40 strings are light gauge ranging from .011 to .047 while the EZ-900 strings are extra-light gauge ranging from 0.010 to 0.050.
I made a video of this string change to demonstrate the difference in the tone of my acoustic guitar before and after replacement of strings. I played the guitar first with the EZ900 then played again after string changed with EJ40. The EZ900 produced bright tone for having bronze material whereas the EJ40 produced mellow tone due to silk material. In addition, the silk and steel strings feel very soft and easy to play which I really liked. Check out the video to hear the sound comparison between the two sets of strings.
